High heels and broken hearts.

Walking along the streets of Coolangatta today, I somehow stumbled across my very own little slice of heaven. Right there in the window of a tiny little boutique, sat the most breathtakingly beautiful pair of high heels that I have ever laid eyes on; everything from the bright, vibrant colours right down to the perfect little tassles that were dangling from those fancy feathered flowers had me falling in love.

Needless to say, I of course walked straight in, with every intention of leaving the store with a brand new and extremely beautiful pair of high heels and asked the lovely shop assistant if I could please have a size eight. Unfortunately for me however, unlike most fairytales, this story did not have a happy ending.

Although they did indeed have a size eight; one which fitted perfectly might I add, sadly they didn’t come equipped with magical super powers that would allow my terribly uncoordinated self to walk gracefully in such a beautiful pair of shoes.

So whilst I did seriously consider purchasing them as a ‘one of a kind’ centrepiece for my bedroom, I instead did the sensible thing and left empty handed; with nothing but a beautiful memory, a broken heart and the unlikely dream of someday having the ability to walk gracefully in such a stunningly beautiful pair of high heels.

The little baby Koala Bear that well and truly stole my heart.

Exactly one month ago today, a brand new baby boy entered the world.

One month ago today, my bestfriend gave birth to the most gorgeous little baby boy that I have ever laid eyes on and I became a God Mumma.

One month ago today, a perfect little, well, maybe not so little 9.8 pound bundle of joy came into this world and stole my heart in a way that I never could have imagined.

With his ten little fingers and his ten tiny little toes, his beautiful big baby belly, his perfect deep blue eyes and his cute little button nose that looks just like his Mumma’s; he completely took my breath away.

Sure, I had nine months of my bestfriend being pregnant to get use to the idea of a brand new baby boy and I always expected him to be cute. I even expected to fall in love, at least a little, but I never for a second expected to fall this hard and this fast.

You always hear the warnings for first time Mumma’s, about how strong a Mother’s love is for her child, but they never seemed to send out a warning for those first time God Mumma’s.

I never stood a chance.

Now, one month on, not a single thing has changed. He is by far one of the most precious things in my life and every visit, he still manages to steal a little more of my heart. Catch-up’s with his Mumma for my Koala Bear cuddles are the highlight of my week and before I even walk out the door, I’m already counting down the days until I get to see his beautiful little chubby face again.

Just one month and he already has me wrapped around his tiny little finger.

The magic that is The Human Body.

I don’t think it will ever cease to amaze me just how the human body works. Not in the biology/science type way, because let’s be honest, I’ve never been all that good at science. Amazing as in the unexplainable kind of way, like the way our body has the ability to forget pain.

The way that every time someone we know has the flu we don’t feel the need to be sympathetic, because at the end of the day it’s really no big deal, they just have a cold. A week later though, when we catch that very same cold, we’re certain that the world is ending.

Our bodies are amazing like that. One day we can be in the worst pain imaginable, yet a few months down the track, it’s all just a blur. I mean sure, we know that it was horrible and we know that it was the worst pain of our life, but that’s all it is, it’s just memories. Physically we can’t remember, because mentally our body won’t allow our mind take us back there; because if it did, then what?

If we remembered exactly how much pain we were in that night we gave birth to our beautiful baby boy, then how would he ever have met his perfect little sister?

If we remembered just how much it hurt every time we failed at something in life, then what would possess us to keep trying?

If everytime we had our heart broken, we remembered the heartache, then how would we ever find real true love?

Our bodies are smarter than we often give them credit for. They don’t make us forget pain in an attempt to take away the memories, they simply make the pain fade, allowing us to create new ones.

Family; one of life’s greatest blessings.

Life teaches us lessons every day, but it’s the little things we learn from our family that stay with us forever.

————-

Things my Mumma has taught me:

1. Christmas is exciting, no matter how old we get.

2. A Christmas Tree always looks its best when it is surrounded by a room full of presents.

3. At least one of those presents should always be given early, just because.

4. Priority wise, vacuuming does not top the list.

5. Neither does dusting.

6. Recipes don’t ever turn out the way they look in the cook books.

7. If clothes need to be ironed, don’t buy them.

8. Speed walking during ‘Sale’ season is a must.

9. Don’t ever pay full price, for anything.

10. Despite what society likes us to believe, a mother and a daughter can in fact be the very best of friends.

————-

Things my Dadda has taught me:

1. When your chips are cold at McDonalds – complain.

2. How to turn the expensive tomatoes into the cheap ones, without anybody realising.

3. The appropriate and the not so appropriate times to buy home brand.

4. Just how full a rubbish bag can get before it needs to be emptied.

5. How different things were “back on the farm”.

6. Growing a garden isn’t quite as easy as it looks in the movies.

7. Cheese, Tomato and Salada’s are all anybody needs for the perfect lunch combination.

8. Playing the pokies is just as much a talent as it is blind luck.

9. Stubbornness as a personality trait is quite possibly hereditary.

10. You are never too old to be ‘Daddy’s Little Girl’.

————-

Things my Brother has taught me:

1. If there are ‘sharks’ in the pool, don’t go swimming.

2. Holding your breath under water is not as easy as you might think.

3. How ‘not to’ land a back-flip.

4. Just how easy it is for a failed attempt at a back-flip to end in a concussion.

5. How to watch a scary movie with your finger on the mute button.

6. Backgammon pieces are extremely dangerous when thrown at high speeds.

7. Hard cover books do in fact hurt when thrown at someone’s face.

8. The Banker always wins in Monopoly.

9. Not everybody understands the concept of personal space.

10. Just how boring life would be without a big brother like mine.

————-

More importantly though, these three people have taught me how to love, how to be happy and how to laugh at myself. They’re the ones who have taught me that above all else, family truly is one of life’s greatest blessings.

Cirque De Soleil; take one & take two.

For the past couple of days I have been spending most of my time strolling the streets of Las vegas. Something that I never in a million years imagined I would be doing, but something that I have now decided I will be doing again, hopefully sooner rather than later.

Now for those of you who have not yet been lucky enough to visit Vegas, first of all you are missing out and second of all, it’s huge. Sure it may only be a strip, but that strip goes on for miles and miles and miles. Trust me, my lovely big brother made me walk it last night as fast as I possibly could, while stressing about making our Cirque Du Soleil: Mystere Show on time.

Funny story actually; not only did we make the show on time, we were a whole twenty-four hours early. Needless to say, when we tried again tonight, for the second night in a row, we all agreed fairly quickly that a taxi would probably be the best option.

Despite the marathon of a walk though, as well as those few hours last night of wanting to kill my big brother, when we did finally get to sit down and watch the show I would have to say that it was all worth it. For our very first show in Las Vegas, I couldn’t possibly have asked for anything more. It was graceful, comedic, suspenseful, entertaining and for the first time in my life, I was on the edge of my seat the whole entire time. As far as the entertainment industry goes, I don’t think I have ever been more impressed.

So take my word for it, on the off chance that you’re ever in the neighbourhood and feel like watching a little bit of acrobatics, make sure you find your way to Cirque Du Soleil; Mystere on Treasure Island. I promise you that you won’t be disappointed. Well, unless of course you decide to walk the hundred and one miles to get there and end up missing your show.
